RÉSUMÉ ENCYCLOPEDIA

FEDERAL RÉSUMÉS, STATEMENTS, ETC.

NOTE: Crystal Résumés does not provide Federal résumé services.

SUMMARY:

If you’re not applying for a U.S. government job, you don’t need to know anything about federal résumés—the federal hiring process is a separate reality.

If you are applying for a U.S. government job, you need to know a lot, and you’re going to have to put in some serious time learning it. There are books on the subject you should read.

NOTE:

Only a few résumé services do federal résumés, and they charge a lot, for very good reasons. Probably even fewer do them well. The problem isn’t the sheer amount of information required. If it were that, it would just be a larger writing job. The problem is finding out in advance what information is required, and in what form. Doing federal résumés really well requires a full-time commitment to maintaining expertise in the many variations in the federal job-application process and all its nonsense, contradictions, and out-of-control ramifications. In short, the federal job application process is almost as screwy as the federal tax code. I tried it, and decided it wasn’t worthwhile. The only way I could find out exactly what information I needed to prepare for my client was to apply for the same job myself.
